We teach both dialects, Cantonese on Monday - Wednesday, and Mandarin on Thursday - Friday. We also teach traditional calligraphy along with Chinese word processing. The Chinese Method The traditional Chinese technique for teaching language involves a 5 step methodology: 讀書 - Dook Sherr - Reading - Students read a story or lesson plan from the book 抄書 - Chao Sherr - Copying - Students transcribe a story to learn to write the characters 解書 - Gai Sherr - Comprehension - Students recite and explain the story into English or spoken Cantonese 唸書 - Nim Sherr - Memorized Recitation - Students recite the story from memory 墨書 - Muk Sherr - Memorized Transcription - Students write the story from memory Whereas modern western teaching emphasizes critical thinking and logical analyzation, Chinese teaching emphasizes form and memorization. The combination of these two methodologies creates a very strong mental development in young students. Calligraphy The traditional method to teach calligraphy involves a 2 step methodology: 摺字 - Jap Ji - Tracing - Students trace characters over thin rice paper with a brush to learn the strokes, the proportion, and where to apply strengths to a character 臨字 - Lum Ji - Transcribing - Students look at characters on one side and write free hand, to learn to balance the words and develop their own handwriting

Adult Conversational Class: Sundays: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Tuition: Only $60 for a 9 week sesson! This class is a small class for adults to learn conversational Mandarin. Starting from the very beginning, topics include eating, shopping, travel, etiquite and basic every day conversation. As China is a growing vital economic power, this class is a must for anyone who wants to do business with the Chinese.
